|PROJECT||Runway 5/23 Drainage and Safety Improvements|
This project includes professional engineering services for the construction of drainage improvements between Runway 5-23 and parallel Taxiway A. The services include field surveys, geotechnical subsurface exploration, geometric layouts, environmental permitting, stormwater management design and permitting, electrical modifications, pavement markings, bidding services, construction progress meetings, site visits, RPR services, submittal and RFI reviews, evaluation of contractor pay requests, preparation of change orders, coordination of a QA testing program, preparation of conformed documents, and project closeout. The project also included the removal of approximately 5 acres of mangroves in the west quadrant of the airport that has been determined to be a coyote habitat, as well as installation of perimeter fencing with wildlife deterrent fencing in the same area (completed in Phase 1). A modification of FAA grading standards, applicable airport wide, was a key outcome of the project. Phases 1 and 2 are complete and Phase 3 (pictured below with standing water while completed Phase 2 is dry) is projected to start construction in the first quarter of 2023.
